Hardy, early-mid spring-flowering tulip
Deep scarlet, single flowers stained bluish-red at the base of each petal with contrasting blue-green foliage
10 bulbs per bag.
This single-flowered, fragrant tulip dates to 1845 and is still widely grown. The short but sturdy stems of "Couleur Cardinal" are typical of early spring flowering types. Garden tulips were introduced into Europe from Turkey by the mid 1500s and their popularity soared in Holland during the "Tulipmania" of 1634-37. Thomas Jefferson mentioned tulips more than any other flower in his Garden Book.
