Hardy, eastern North American perennial sedge
Narrow, fine-textured green foliage forms graceful, sweeping mounds; greenish flowers and seed clusters emerge in late spring
Origin: Eastern North America
Sedges are an immense genus that exists worldwide and many native and introduced species now grow throughout North America. Appalachian Sedge has a native range in dry woodlands from Quebec and Ontario south to Tennessee and Georgia. This ornamental sedge thrives in the dry root zones around trees, in rock gardens and borders, along walkways, and in containers. Deer avoid this plant, but it is a food and host plant for some skipper species of butterflies and turtles eat the seeds.
